Eugenia Falls

[1-click to enlarge both photos]

The falls, at 30 meters high, are located in the Eugenia Falls Conservation Area of 23 hectares along the Niagara Escarpment. They were discovered in 1852 as a result of a ‘Fools Gold’ rush.

The name for the falls had been suggested by ex-soldiers of the French Army (Crimean War) after Princess Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III.

For more information about the falls and the gorge go here.

This is a gorgeous waterfall, Barbara. I wish I were there right now!

Tony, it might have been because these falls were once part of an Ontario Hydro project, and then they moved to another location. The falls do not have the amount of water they should due to relocation of part of the Beaver River. Spring is the best time to see them in their glory.

Teresa, if you were anywhere in Ontario it would be much cooler than California. For some reason the summer weather here has remained cool for the season.

Was the Fool's Gold rush because someone found a small amount of gold and thought there was much more to be mined, or a case of iron pyrite mistaken identity?

Margaret, there are many places near where we live that have interesting tales.

Rick, it was the iron pyrite.

Maithri, welcome and thanks for stopping by. Waterfalls have the same effect on me.

Cloudia, the waterfalls where you are have beautiful tropical flowers.

Rajesh, thank you.

Charles, this part of the Niagara Escarpment is some distance from the Niagara Falls region. The Niagara Escarpment swings from south of Buffalo, New York up through the Bruce Pennisula, Manitoulin Islands and swings north west and south over the top edge of Lake Michigan.
