Two Sentence Tuesday: 6 January 2009

My novel length manuscripts are mainly dark fantasy in an urban setting with trips into alternative worlds. To keep abreast of the fantasy books available I read a variety including Young Adult books, such as those written by Cinda Williams Chima. Ms Chima’s Heir trilogy is set in the real world, as we know it, with magical medieval characters living among us.

Two sentences from my current reading in “The Wizard Heir” by Cinda Williams Chima: “She had an aime quality, with her spiky hair and quirky quilted cotton clothes. Plus, she could swear in three Chinese dialects.”

And two sentences from my work-in-progress novel manuscript, Keeper of Laws:

“Horses were screaming and men were lying dead or injured on the grass.
Maggie stiffened as Wilhelm approached, and watched him remove his blood-stained gauntlets.”

You can't go wrong with "blood-stained gauntlets." Me Gusta!

(Holding up a wine glass in a glorious toast) I second David's statement. Makes me want to know why horses were screaming.

BTW, thanks for stopping by my blog today.

David, Wilhelm is one tough guy and very good with a double-edged sword.

Scott, war horses weren't fitted with full body armour in the 12th century. They were vulnerable to spears and swords like their riders.

Yikes. That's quite a pair of lines.

Charles, thanks.

Pam, these sentences are from the second manuscript.

My varied topics are a result of my tendency to become bored easily. This is why my manuscripts have more than one genre in them.

Patti, skirmishs and wars in medieval times tended to be bloody.
