Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings

This photo is in Yoho National Park, British Columbia taken after a snowfall.

For all my blog visitors and friends, may you have a Merry Christmas and enjoyable festivities over the holidays. I'm looking forward to roast turkey with all the trimmings with friends and family tomorrow, and, yes, the leftovers of turkey soup, turkey casserole, turkey pie. Sometimes over indulgence in food leaves one refusing later servings.

One year during my childhood, my mother was hospitalized for minor surgery as she was a teacher and couldn't really take time off during the other part of the year. My father, sensing a deal in cheap cranberries, bought a bushel worth. Taking over my mother's normal duty of Christmas dinner, my father made enough cranberry sauce, jelly and pies to last us six months. One of my brothers cannot eat cranberries today (50 years later).

Another Christmas, when I was in the hospital as a teenager, I ate a large box of Turtles over two days, and it took about 25 years before I could eat another one. Even now I rarely eat them.

Any of you ever have over indulgences at Christmas or holidays?

Not really an indulgence but about 28 years ago, I drank a couple glasses of Bailey's Irish Cream. At the same time I was ill with an undiagnosed ovarian cyst. I was so nauseaus I threw up. Not because I drank too much but because I was so ill prior to surgery.

I can barely stand to look at a bottle of the stuff to this day.

Enjoy your turkey-a-thon.

Merry Christmas, Barbara. I love the picture! The only thing I ever overindulged in at a family get together was creamed corn at my aunt's house one year. I still have a hard time eating it.

Kia ora Barbara,
Merry Christmas to you as well. I have just removed myself from over indulging on lamb, turkey, and ham - along with all the trimmings. Hope I can walk it off in the mountains. Have a wonderful day.

Robb

You might more properly ask have I ever NOT overindulged? ;)

I'm from a Ukrainian family. We take our feasting seriously. If people aren't undoing belts and groaning after a meal - the cooks get insulted. Musn't have that....

Merry Christmas to you and yours, Barbara. :)

Merry Christmas Barbara! My over indulgence was lasagne! One of mothers sisters married an Italian and when they visited, she made enough lasagne to fill all of mom's 9x13" pans.... it took years before I was able to eat it again.

Merry Christmas!

Can't remember any Christmas overindulgence, but I had too much of a very rich, creamy cake at a birthday as kid. Can't go near Buttercremetorte until today.

I'm laughing at the cranberry story. I'd be with your brother who could never eat another.

Ronda, Bailey's is meant to be savoured in a small glass. To drink several glasses is asking for trouble.

Teresa, I managed to get through one large helping of divine Turkey dinner and a hefty slice of Apple pie. Normally we have mincemeat tarts or pies, but this year my sister-in-law made apple.

Robb, the nice thing about Christmas dinners is that there is always leftovers to snack on.

Frank, all those delectable Ukrainian dishes for Christmas...perogies, cabbage rolls, and other divine goodies that my Aunt used to make. My uncle married a nice Ukranian lady who really knew how to cook, and it was a pure delight to visit them on January 7th to have another Christmas dinner.

Reb, I love lasgne. Perhaps you'll post the recipe one of these days.

Gary, the book is a tad creepy so I'm saving it for the new year.

Gabriele, it seems to be those favourite foods which do us in.

Charles, it's always a delight to see my brother's face whenever I ask him if he'd like some cranberry sauce. I love cranberries in whatever way they are prepared, though I take a smaller helping than some.

Not on holidays, but yes, I have over-dosed on a few.

Merry Christmas, Barbara!

One Christmas season it was apple pie milkshakes, complete with graham cracker crumbs. YUM. Haven't had one since.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Barbara! Loved your post, most especially the personal touch. And yes, I still can't drink Saki after one long night in Atlanta after a hard night's training.

The first Halloween that I lived here in the United States, I decided to give out Butterfinger chocolate bars. I'd seen them advertised on TV in Canada, and they always seemed exotic. Well....while I gave out several, I ate several more. I haven't eaten one since! And this happened about 20 years ago. :)
