Bench of the Week (14)

These benches are located at Two Jack Lake, 12 miles from Banff, Alberta on the Lake Minnewanka Road Loop. The mountain shown is Mt. Rundle, 2949m (9675 ft). Mt. Rundle was named by John Palliser in 1858 after Reverend Robert Rundle, a missionary who visited the Banff area in the 1840s.

The Bench of the Week is an informal meme begun by RuneE of Visual Norway. Please visit his site for a lakeside bench.

Other participants are:
Gerald from Ackworth Born, Gone West with a refreshing bench.
Malyss has a bench location perfect for bird watching.
Pam of Textilosophy Oz has a bench in a picturesque location.
Dina from Jerusalem Hills Daily Photo has benches fit for siestas.

  4. If that lake is always so quiet, that bench which is exceptional. And the name of that lake tells a story all by itself.

  7. I must admit that the first thing I saw was not the bench..Ü
but this incredible reflection of the mountain in the lake! This being said, it's difficult to find a better place to a bench, considering the wonderful place where it is, and the wonderful view to admire.. it's taking breath!

  11. Charles, reflections in water have the same affect on many people.

Wil, a perfect tranquil spot to have a brief respite with a snack and drink.

Teresa, this spot and many others around the lake are excellent places to stop.

  12. RuneE, the times the water has been rough is during windy thunderstorms in summer, which pass quickly. Sometimes there's a bit of snow, too, but it quickly melts.

Bhavesh, welcome and thanks for stopping by.

Gerald, the Rocky Mountains are my favourite place on earth, with every turn a new delight to discover.

  13. Margi, this bench definitely has a 'come hither' appeal to it.

Malyss, the location of a bench is important to attract people to stop awhile and refresh themselves, either through spirit or food.

Steve, if I had been attempting this shot, my pesky brothers would skip a rock on its surface.

  14. Leah, I have many days I'd like to just go by in such a setting as this.

Pam, this location is almost perfection, indeed.

  17. Bindu, soon you will be so mesmerized that you and your husband will visit Banff in no time.

Lauren, if you do, it's a long two day drive from Chicago (I've driven from Toronto to Vancouver, B.C. in 2.5 days). Take the I-90 west out of Chicago to Butte, Montana, then change to I-15 north to the Canadian border, #2 north to Lethbridge, through Fort Macleod (might want to stop here to see the old NWMP post) up to Calgary, west again on #1-Trans Canada Highway to Banff. Make certain you have reservations for accommodation before you get to Banff. It fills up fast in the summer. An alternative would be to stay at one of the hostels. I have links on my hiking posts for more information.
