These benches are located at Two Jack Lake, 12 miles from Banff, Alberta on the Lake Minnewanka Road Loop. The mountain shown is Mt. Rundle, 2949m (9675 ft). Mt. Rundle was named by John Palliser in 1858 after Reverend Robert Rundle, a missionary who visited the Banff area in the 1840s.

RuneE, the times the water has been rough is during windy thunderstorms in summer, which pass quickly. Sometimes there's a bit of snow, too, but it quickly melts.

ReplyDeleteLauren, if you do, it's a long two day drive from Chicago (I've driven from Toronto to Vancouver, B.C. in 2.5 days). Take the I-90 west out of Chicago to Butte, Montana, then change to I-15 north to the Canadian border, #2 north to Lethbridge, through Fort Macleod (might want to stop here to see the old NWMP post) up to Calgary, west again on #1-Trans Canada Highway to Banff. Make certain you have reservations for accommodation before you get to Banff. It fills up fast in the summer. An alternative would be to stay at one of the hostels. I have links on my hiking posts for more information.
